For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme. Die "Vereinigte Karsten-Zentrum-Grube" in Beuthen O/S. Obwohl die Stadt mit einem Kranz von Gruben und Industrieanlagen umgeben war, sah man zwischendurch bestellte Felder, blühende Gärten und weidende Ziegen, oft dicht an schwelenden Halden. Gern pachteten die Bergleute Acker- und Gartenland, auf dem sie Kraut und Kartoffeln zogen, auf dem ihre Ziege, die "Bergmannskuh" genannt, Nahrung fand und auf dem man selbst nach der Schicht und am Sonntag Erholung suchte. Oft zog der Bergmann auch ein Schwein. Es ging doch nichts über das "Hausschlachten" - ein Fest, das meist sogar ein Nachbarschaftsfest wurde, da der Kumpel die Kameratschaft über alles setzte. Die "Vereinigte Karsten-Zentrum-Grube" im Bild zeigt eine Fülle ordnungsgemäß gestapelter "Stempel", die laufend zur Abstützung des Gehänges vor Ort gebraucht wurden. |
