Summary

Description
English: Greywell Tunnel with summer foliage growth The Greywell Tunnel is about as far as you can go on the Basingstoke canal.
In its time it was the longest tunnel in the south of England. It is closed now due to roof collapse, the last time it was navigated from end to end was in the 50s by 2 canoeists.

There is an underground spring in the tunnel that still feeds the canal clear fresh water.

These days the tunnel is the home of 100s of protected Bats, viewed at the right time of day and season you can see them exiting and feeding on an abundance of insects drawn to canal water.
