English: Parsonage Colliery, steam winding engine First off, I must apologise that this is less than good. The original was dark and equalising it to improve it has revealed defects in the emulsion.
The engine was a unique W & J Galloway horizontal duplex with drop valve cylinders 40" bore x 72" stroke and of about 3000 horsepower. Built 1923 and scrapped in 1981 (the drum was retained and driven by a motor). The driver was in the elevated cabin on the left and the circular dial showed where the cages where in the shaft, with final landing by lining up marks on the drum with a pointer.
